The New York Mets offense did nothing for eight innings on Thursday night, and it looked like it was going to be the end of their season in Game 3 of their National League wild-card game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Then Pete Alonso stepped to the plate.
Following a Francisco Lindor walk and a Brandon Nimmo single, Alonso represented the go-ahead run and clubbed a three-run, opposite field home run off of Brewers closer Devin Williams to give the Mets the lead in the most dramatic fashion possible.
The Mets would go onto win, 4-2, and advance to the National League Division Series where they will face National League East rival the Philadelphia Phillies.
