Jace Jung was thought of as a young up-and-comer in the Detroit Tigers farm system, and there was a very real expectation that he could compete to be the starting third baseman heading into the 2025 season.
That’s how good Jung has projected to be at just 24 years old, but he’s suffered a setback this spring after going just 4-for-33 with one home run and two doubles in Grapefruit League play for the Tigers this spring.
It’s being reported by beat reporter Cody Stavenhagen that Jung is being optioned to Triple-A Toledo ahead of the 2025 season. According to manager A.J. Hinch, it seems like an attempt to get Jung’s timing back on track.
“His timing was off almost entirely. Even the first day I know he ambushed a couple balls to the pull side. He just didn’t make the adjustment timing wise to make this team. That’s tough news to deliver. It’s tougher news to take,” Hinch said, per Stavenhagen.
