Green coffee trading company Caravela recently expanded operations with the opening of new dry mills in Guatemala and Mexico.
In February, Caravela inaugurated the state-of-the-art dry mills: Trilladora El Jaguar, outside Guatemala City, Guatemala; and Trilladora El Águila, in Oaxaca City, Mexico.

According to Caravela, each of the mills has the capacity to process up to 25 bags of green coffee per hour, while each features advanced dust aspiration systems for improved air quality. Designed to streamline post-harvest handling processing and quality control, both mills feature new destoners with a pipe magnet to remove foreign objects, as well as optical sorters with RGB, UV, and Near Infrared (NIR) cameras.
The coffee company — which maintains export offices throughout Latin America, as well as import offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia — said it worked with the industrial processing equipment company Cimbria to build and equip the new facilities.
The project costs were not publicly disclosed.

In a company announcement, Caravela Coffee Global Supply Chain Leader Luz Carime Gomez said the new mills respond to challenges the company has faced in recent years in maintaining high quality standards from unnamed third-party operators in Guatemala and Mexico.
“To ensure greater consistency and efficiency, we invested in state-of-the-art Cimbria dry mills, known for their precision, energy efficiency, and advanced technology,” Carime Gomez said. “This investment allows us to have full control over the milling process, minimize reprocessing, and guarantee exceptional coffee for our roaster partners while creating more value for coffee growers at origin.”
