The Chiefs could be days away from winning their third straight NFL championship.
Philadelphia, whom they beat in Super Bowl LVII, should have something to say about that, so look for these players and coaches to step up for Kansas City.
Patrick Mahomes | QB
It would be foolish to think a three-time Super Bowl MVP won’t factor in on Sunday. Mahomes went 34-of-46 for 333 yards and two scores against the 49ers in last year’s Super Bowl and threw three touchdowns against the Eagles in the one before that.
Both games were decided by three points, and all signs point to another close game in Super Bowl LIX. Including the playoffs, all but four of Kansas City’s games were decided by single digits this year.
Mahomes’ 3,928 passing yards in 2024 were his fewest in seven years as a starter, but his decision making has never been better, something he’ll need to maintain against an Eagles defense that allowed a league-low 278.4 yards per game in the regular season.
Travis Kelce | TE
Specifically, the Chiefs need the player who caught seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in the divisional round of the playoffs, not the one who averaged 51.4 yards per game with just three touchdowns in the regular season.
