The Washington Commanders took a bold stance on their offseason and decided to find a way to give their young superstar rookie, Jayden Daniels, another big-time weapon.
That led to a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for Deebo Samuel. At 29 years old, Samuel was entering the final year of his contract with the 49ers, so he became an expendable asset for general manager John Lynch, who went on a fire sale this offseason.
The kicker for Samuel with the Commanders was that he still wasn’t signed past this 2025 season, but Washington went ahead and took care of its new offensive weapon nonetheless.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Commanders are reworking Samuel’s contract to give him some guaranteed money in 2025, which he previously didn’t have. What he did have was a base salary of $16.6 million, a $200,000 roster bonus and up to $750,000 in game bonuses, but now the Commanders have guaranteed him $17 million and also have given him $3 million in incentives.
