There have not been many times in the past 35 years that Kentucky basketball could be considered an “underdog.”
Kentucky has been one of the country’s best and most consistent college basketball programs, one could argue, dating back to 1948.
This program boasts eight NCAA Tournament wins, but heading into its Round 1 matchup with Troy on Friday, the Wildcats aren’t taking anything for granted.
Who cares if they are the No. 3 seed versus the No. 14-seeded Trojans? According to senior guard Koby Brea, the Wildcats are going into this one humble.
“We’re still going to continue to hunt. Who we’re playing against, we’re still going to have that underdog mentality,” Brea told reporters after an open practice on Thursday (h/t On3). “It’s good for us to have all these experienced guys from smaller schools, that’s going to help us a lot. We don’t look at it like [we’re playing] a mid-major team. For us, this is another opportunity to be ourselves and be the best version of ourselves, and take care of business. It’s an underdog mentality, for sure.”
