For the first time since 2021, the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team has lost a regular-season game against a conference opponent.
The Gamecocks fell to No. 4 Texas, 66-62 in a hard-fought top-five matchup.
The loss for South Carolina was just its second of the season and first since its sixth game of the season against No. 1 UCLA.
With the win, Texas now sits atop the SEC standings and holds the tiebreaker over the Gamecocks.
Madison Booker was outstanding for the Longhorns, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds, good for her fifth double-double of the season and third in the last five games.
Kyla Oldacre (13 points) and Taylor Jones (11 points) were also in double figures.
The Gamecocks struggled big time in the scoring department, as they had just one player in double digits.
It’s 62 points tied for a season low for South Carolina and the same number of points it scored in the early season loss to UCLA.
MiLaysia Fulwiley was the previously mentioned lone South Carolina player in double figures with 13 points.
Joyce Edwards (9 points) and Chloe Kitts (9 points) were close to double digits but could not quite get there.
South Carolina will return to Columbia for three straight home games, including hosting No. 6 UConn next Sunday.
Texas will continue its stretch of ranked matchups, as they play both No. 11 Kentucky and No. 6 LSU next week.
