Jack Wood won Stage 1 of Saturday’s Fr8 208 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but he had to earn every bit of the stage victory.
Layne Riggs made a wild three-wide move entering turn 1 on the final lap of the stage, but Wood — who was running in the third lane — pulled away from the pack and held on to earn his first stage win of 2025.
Riggs was penalized for going beneath the double-white line, which is an illegal move if you advance your position. While Riggs finished third in the stage, the penalty negated the eight stage points he earned.
Riggs’ problems didn’t stop there, however. A lack of power put Riggs two laps down, and while his Ford F-150 was able to get back under power, he rejoined the race two laps down.
Grant Enfinger, Connor Mosack, Kyle Busch, Corey Heim, Stewart Friesen, Tyler Ankrum, Daniel Hemric, Rajah Caruth and Michael McDowell rounded out the top-10 in Stage 1 following Riggs’ penalty.
