For the first time in program history, the William & Mary Tribe will be playing in their first Round of 64 game in program history.
The Tribe won their first-ever game in the women’s NCAA tournament with a 69-63 win over the High Point Panthers on Thursday night in a First Four game in Austin, Texas.
William & Mary went 11-18 in the regular season before rattling off four straight wins in the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament to secure an automatic bid into the field.
The Tribe was led by Bella Nascimento’s 24 points. It was her third straight game with 20+ points, and well above her season average of 16.3 points per game.
Monet Dance (15 points) and Cassidy Geddes (12 points) were also in double figures for the Tribe.
Natalie Fox also chipped in a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, her second of the year. Fox’s first double-double came back in November during William & Mary’s second game of the season, a loss to Long Beach State.
William & Mary will now try and shock the world on Saturday when it remains in Austin for a matchup against the No. 1-seeded Texas Longhorns.
